Impact of Body Language/Ballroom Dance on Leadership

Problem Statement

The current world is becoming more and more connected with technology and yet less and less connected with humanity.  With the constant advancement of technology, humanity as a whole is becoming less connected to each other. People are talking via email, playing games over the internet, and associating with more online groups.  It’s so much easier to fire someone whom you have never met and act unethically.  The lack of connectivity with each other provides a meaningless life, where medication is needed to get out of bed and get through the day.

Body language is also proven to consist 68% of human communications.  Yet, there is no specific form of education on how to communicate with one’s body.  Most educational forms are conducted with the advancement of words, which are only 7% of communications.  With a lack of awareness in body language, conflicts due to lack of understanding are more likely.  Stress is one of the highest causes for health concerns today, much of that can be attributed to the lack of proper communication.  Adopted from a lecture by Jeffery Ford, a professor at OSU, communication is the life blood of organizations.  All actions, organizations, processes, businesses thrive or die by their ability to communicate effectively.

Significance to Humanity

Imagine a world where people are aware of their physical language.  Whether to relieve stress or to make a specific statement, one’s ability to use their body empowers any individual.  From a linguistic perspective, society can learn to articulate precisely.

On another level, people are capable to developing a deeper understanding of one another.  They learn to connect to other people on a physical level which ultimately creates a bond that enables compassion.  Imagine a community, within the global village, that is connected beyond the usually hellos.  They care about each other and trust one another, a world where understanding is created from physical language. Furthermore, cultures are better understood by the expressions of the body.
